More movie news for Tom! He’s going to work with Doug Liman again, who worked together on Edge of Tomorrow and American Made, and have plans to work on the Space Movie too. Here’s the report from Deadline:

Tom Cruise is attached to star in Deeper, a supernatural thriller that Doug Liman has in early development, the filmmaker has revealed.

Liman shared the news with Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman at a recent NYC screening of the documentary Gaucho Gaucho, expressing his interest in crafting a “scary” movie at this stage of his career. “I have never done one,” said the director, “and neither has Tom.”

While reports have suggested that Deeper may be Liman’s next project, whether that’s actually the case is not yet clear. Sources have confirmed to Deadline that the film is currently set up at Warner Bros.

Deeper follows an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while on a deep dive into a never-before-explored trench. In development for almost a decade, the project was originally set up at MGM in April 2016, following the studio’s acquisition of a hot spec from Max Landis. Originally, Bradley Cooper was to star, with Kornél Mundruczó directing; Idris Elba and filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur teamed on a later iteration that likewise failed to move forward.

Should the project come together at long last, it will be either the third our fourth for Cruise & Liman, on the heels of Edge of Tomorrow and American Made. Currently, the pair are also plotting a NASA film to be shot in outer space, in collaboration with SpaceX, which remains in development.

Most recently, Cruise entered talks to star in a sequel to his 1990 NASCAR drama Days of Thunder for Paramount Pictures. Coming off of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, the follow-up to which hits theaters next summer, he’s next set to roll cameras on a new Alejandro G. Iñárritu film for Warner Bros and Legendary, about which not much is known.

Liman is coming off success with his Road House remake, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, which garnered Amazon MGM Studios’ biggest-ever debut, and Apple’s heist pic The Instigators, starring Casey Affleck and Matt Damon. Both films are said to have sequels in development.

As per Empire, a new project for Tom has been confirmed: Deeper, Directed by Doug Liman who Tom worked before on American Made and Edge of Tomorrow.
.

At this point in his career, there is very little that Tom Cruise hasn’t done. The Mission: Impossible action man has flown Boeing fighter jets, scaled the tallest building in the world, held his breath underwater for six whole minutes, rode a motorcycle off a cliff, and somehow convinced us that his 5’7″ frame could still pass for man mountain Jack Reacher. But one thing the Hollywood icon has yet to do is dabble in the realms of horror (no, Interview With The Vampire doesn’t count!). According to Deadline however, that’s all set to change as Cruise looks set to team up with his American Made and _Edge Of Tomorrow_director Doug Liman on Deeper, a scary new supernatural thriller.

In a report sourced from Roger Friedman’s Showbiz411 and corroborated by Deadline, the trade confirmed that Liman and Cruise are setting up shop at Warner Bros. to make their third (possibly fourth — there’s still a SpaceX movie for the duo on their horizon) movie together. Friedman’s own source for this exciting news is Liman himself who, at a recent New York screening of documentary Gaucho Gaucho, explained to the entertainment journalist that he’s interested in making a “scary movie”, noting how he had “never done one […] and neither has Tom [Cruise].” As for what said scary movie entails, all we really know so far is that the film centres around an astronaut who encounters “a terrifying force” while on a deep dive into an unexplored trench.

Cruise and Liman are the latest duo who’ve tried to get Deeper moving, with Bradley Cooper and Kornél Mundruczó — as well as Idris Elba and Baltasar Kormákur — having previously been attached to the project, which has been floating around Hollywood since 2016 now. But with Cruise seemingly gearing up for his last Mission: Impossible rodeo with The Final Reckoning, and Liman coming in fresh off the one-two punch of this year’s The Instigators and Road House, it looks like the movie may have found the dream pairing to finally bring it to our screens. If we see Tom Cruise in a spacesuit or wearing flippers and a snorkel anytime soon, then let’s just say we’ll have a pretty good idea what cinema’s maddest lad is up to next. Yes, Edge Of Tomorrow 2: Live, Die, Repeat And Repeat — obvs!

Update on Tom Cruise’s current movie projects

Here’s an update on Tom Cruise’s current project and possible rumors. Thanks tomcruisse62 for the info!

  • Mission: Impossible 8
  • Currently on Post-Production, main filming has wrapped. If any pickup shooting is to happen, it’ll just be additional re-shoot or voice work.
Plot and additional title: Unknown, but a trailer is expected to drop on November 11th and be attached to the new Gladiator movie.
The premiere itself will take place on May 23 in 2025.

  • Tom and Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled project
  • Filming is expect to begin between November and January. Shooting is expected to be done in the UK in the same studio as Mission: Impossible 8. Unknown about possible shooting on location

Plot: as it’s known, is about the most powerful man in the world who embarks on an insane mission to prove he’s the savior of mankind before the catastrophe he unleashed destroys everything.

  • Broadsword
  • Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie will rejoin on this project. According to sources filming could begin as early as July 2025.

Plot: The story of Operation S.O.E. during World War II tells of a Marine captain who is crash-landed in France and becomes the sole survivor. Against all odds, he must accomplish his mission amidst military chaos.

Rumors – NONE of these have been officially confirmed:

  • Top Gun 3
  • Days of Thunder 2
  • Untitled Tom Cruise/SpaceX Project
  • The Gauntlet
  • Edge of Tomorrow/Live Die Repeat Sequel
  • Untitled Les Grossman Solo movie

Take all these titles with a grain of salt.
Tom Cruise took over 30 years to agree to a sequel of Top Gun. He won’t do it unless it is the right script.
Edge of Tomorrow I wouldn’t put any chips in, Tom has always said he wants Emily Blunt back, but she said they had a script for a sequel a couple of years after the first movie, but it’s been 10 years. She has also commented how she didn’t like the physical training for the movie, so it could be why it’s not happening.
The Space movie I feel like it’s unlikely happening because Tom has stated he wanted to space walk and I don’t think NASA or any other country would send a civilian to space and do a space walk without months of training and Tom would have to stop movies for a year to train.
All other titles I think they were ideas, and no one in his team has bothered to remove from IMDb listings.
